ARE THEY GOATS?

It’s the ultimate Damara owners’ rite of passage. Throw some hair and a solid set of horns on a sheep, and the public’s collective brain completely short-circuits.
Whether it’s a neighbour leaning over the fence, a visiting tourist taking photos, or some bloke at the petrol station staring at the ram in your trailer and asking, “What is that, a goat?”—the confusion is real.
Eventually, you just stop correcting them and nod along when they tell you how nice your “goats” look.
It is a global epidemic. Johann Cloete gets it in Namibia. Judy Forbes even faced it at the Brisbane Ekka with massive signage, photos, and actual sheep on display. People still stood there and argued the point with her.
Despite the intense pressure to transition into a goat, the Damara stubbornly insist they still identify as sheep!
But hey, that’s the Damara charm. They refuse to look like a brainless flock. They are sharp, intensely curious, and openly judge the people who can’t tell them apart from a billy goat.
We know they’re 100% sheep. The rest of the world? Hey, brown cows still make chocolate milk, right?
Every Damara breeder has been through this during a delivery run or a farm visit.
